Latest Celebrity Sighting

My parents and aunt and uncle are visiting from Ohio. We thought they might enjoy meeting some of the local folk, so we called up to Walker's Point and asked if 41 could come out and play. He said yes, so we agreed to meet in Perkin's Cove.

He brought Barbara with him, but she doesn't ride on the boat, she just eats at Barnacle Billy's.
A rather large crowd had gathered to gawk, and as the President left the restaurant, he shook hands (including my aunt and uncle's) and chatted with folks. Regardless of politics, I couldn't help but be impressed by his graciousness and the time he took with each person who wanted to talk to him. My Uncle Don was so thrilled he says he's not going to wash his hand, ever.

The Secret Service Zodiac boat flies the flag of the United States of America, the Texas State flag and the Maine State flag (and those are your tax dollars at work folks).

Nocturnal Ramblings

And I have it on good word that he shops at LLBean in the wee hours of the night. So if you need a little Saturday Night Fever fix, try lurking in Freeport around 3 am.

I'm still trying to figure out which celebrity paid the lobsterman outrageous amounts of money to ferry he/she to the mainland in the middle of the night so that he/she could work out at the gym free of gawkers.

Celebrity Spotting of the Week (or Probably the Year--Who are We Kidding?)

So if you ran into this guy in Frisbee's Market in Kittery Point, Maine, would you recognize him?
What if we gave you a hint and told you that he was the mystery buyer who paid almost $2.0 million for the Historic Bray House?
Anyway, he and his dad stopped into Frisbee's (they purchased a couple of post cards featuring the house that he just bought).
We just happened to be in Frisbee's to pick up some pickles and hamburger buns to go along with our delicious burgers and we got a little extra excitement added to our day.
Of course, after he left, I had to tell Retired Guy who it was. Then I had to play Maneater for him on the way home.......

Oh, and non sequitur of the day: I had a meeting down in Boston. When I went through the Hampton tolls on the way down, not so EZ pass did not register the car passing through. No red, yellow or green lights. No trouble on the Tobin, though. ....On the way home, not so EZ pass Hampton station, asked me to please call them.....

Brie and Burgundy Burgers

2 pounds ground sirloin
4 tablespoons red wine
Salt
Freshly ground pepper
1 cup Brie cheese

Handling the meat as little as possible, mix the sirloin with the red wine, salt and pepper. Gently form it into eight 1 inch thick patties.

Using your thumb, or the end of a wooden spoon, make a small pocket in the center of the burger.

Add a tablespoon of the Brie to each hamburger and then pinch the meat around the top to seal the burger. No cheese should be showing.

Grill over medium high heat for 4-6 minutes per side, or to the desired doneness. Serve hot.

Chrissie, We Hardly Know Ya

I don't know how I missed this little item, but I did.

Anyway, Chris Evert and Greg Norman have both left their spouses and are now an item....this is big news and worth blogging about here because:

1) Chris Evert is my childhood hero. I started playing tennis at the age of six, but got very serious about it after I watched her Grand Slam debut at the US Open in '71. She made it ok to be a girl and to be an athlete.
2) Sadly,I have two and only two celebrity autographs: His and Hers.

His I got at the Memorial Golf Tournament in Dublin, OH at the height of his career, right before he had the stigma of never being able to to win the big one (I guess this changes that). I was at the rope between green and next tee and he was signing everything handed to him. So I handed him the only thing I had....my white golf hat. He signed it, winked and said, "Here ya go, luv." I have no idea where that hat got to.

Hers I got a few years later, when we physically crashed into each other in the Aspen Airport. I was walking in the door behind her (although I didn't know who it was at the time), when she turned suddenly and ran right into me. She apologized. I stammered something completely inane and then thrust my paper ticket at her and said something along the lines of, "You are my favorite athlete on the planet. You made it ok to be competitive and feminine and that was such a huge help to me. Thank you. Will you give me an autograph?" She sighed, said thanks and yes, signed it and went on about her way. I had to negotiate long and hard with United to keep that ticket, but I still have it. I've never asked for, nor wanted, another autograph.

Barefoot Contessa Visits York

York had a rare celebrity event today when the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten, stopped in at Stonewall Kitchen for a book signing.

Even though Ina's departed the store, sometime when you're heading up the Maine Pike, exit at the Yorks/Ogunquit exit and head straight (literally it's a straight shot off of the spur road into their parking lot) into the Kitchen. They're almost always cooking up some delicious samples and the cafe has wonderful lunch and dinner selections, as well as take away. If you're not hungry, the home store has those lovely sachets and liquid soaps.
And for the holidays they're featuring a beautiful rasberry/ pomegranate holiday collection.
